Hunstanton Retirement Home
Hunstanton Retirement Home – extra care accommodation for the elderly, located in Hunstanton, Norfolk.
The McCarthy & Stone development delivers a collection of extra care apartments for the retired. Each Home has it’s own Juliet Balcony overlooking the courtyard below, including one apartment with its own balcony terrace.
We have enjoyed working alongside McCarthy & Stone and IDP Architecture on the design, supply and installation of our balustrade systems. Following pre-contract design engagement, we were appointed by McCarthy & Stone to supply and install the glass balustrade package to the external terrace and stairs, including the installation of Juliet Balconies to provide a safe view of the internal courtyard. Our full scope of works included:
- Juliet Balconies from our B30 range. Galvanised and powder coated steel brackets fixed to the building brickwork. Horizontal aluminium powder coated rails to the top and bottom edges of the Juliette balconies with grey tinted and toughened glass infills.
- B20 Balustrade to External First Floor Terrace with satin stainless steel tubular handrails.
- B20 Stainless Steel and Glass Balustrades to Stairs with 42mm diameter satin stainless steel tubular handrails mounted in line with the balustrades.
- B10 Stainless Steel Wall Handrails with 42mm diameter satin stainless steel tubular handrails mounted to the walls.
Project Achievements
-
Grey tinted glass infills
In order to match the window material and create a consistent finish, we used grey tinted and toughened glass infills on the Juliet balconies which were mounted in line with the Juliet in the base and top channel with fixing gaskets.
-
Curved balustrade
The B20 external first floor terrace required a curved edge. To overcome this we used a curved handrail with faceted glass panels as opposed to using curved glass.
