Greenwich Millennium Village, Phase 3
Phase 3 of Greenwich Millennium Village, is a continuation of the new 1,746 home Greenwich community.
The project is delivered on a joint venture between Countryside and Taylor Wimpey. Phase 3 consists of 4 apartment blocks nestled around a collection of 23 town and courtyard houses.
The Challenge
Following our successful completion of the balustrade packages on Greenwich Millennium Village phase 1 with Willmott Dixon and phase 2 with Bouygues UK, phase 3 required a continuation of the same design intent to build on the vibrant appearance of the development. Phase 3 was delivered by Bennett Construction and Jestico + Whiles. This phase presented new and different challenges to previous phases as the project involved smaller buildings with a number of different detail types.
- The town and courtyard houses were of masonry construction. This brick construction presents a challenge over concrete construction with the potential for an insecure fixing surface.
- Due to the different building types, there were a number of different fixing details required.
The Solution
We were appointed by Bennetts Construction for the supply and installation of the balustrade package. The B40 glass balustrade was proposed for the balustrade solution to the inset balconies and terraces. This was accompanied with B20 privacy screens to some terrace areas.

Fixing detail to town houses
On some roof terraces, there was a requirement to mount a balustrade to a masonry wall to act as a privacy divider. Our design team proposed that our balustrade channel was fixed to a mild steel flat plate.

Sandblasted glass
The B40 Frameless Glass balustrade was provided with 21.5mm toughened and laminated glass. To achieve the ‘frosted’ effect to the glass, each glass panel was sandblasted to a line.

Successful completion
Following the successful completion of phase 3, Bennetts Construction contracted us to continue our works to phase 5. The next phase will deliver a number of apartments and maisonettes in a similar configuration to phase 3.
