Gallions Reach – Royal Albert Wharf, London
Situated in the heart of Royal Albert Wharf, the Gallions Reach project represents the next phase of an ambitious regeneration programme in London’s Docklands. Following the successful completion of Great Eastern Quays Phase 2, also delivered for Vistry Partnerships, BA Systems was brought on board to contribute to the transformation of this key waterfront location.
The Gallions Reach development consists of 241 contemporary flats across three distinct residential buildings. Building upon the strong working relationship established during earlier phases, BA Systems entered into a detailed pre-construction process to review, refine, and enhance the design of the architectural metalwork for this phase.
Pre-Construction Collaboration
BA Systems’ involvement from the early stages of the project allowed for a proactive approach to design and coordination. Drawing on lessons learned from previous phases, we worked closely with the design team to rationalise the architectural details and identify areas for improvement. By integrating best practice and practical insights from our prior experience, we were able to streamline the specification and ensure that the architectural vision was realised with efficiency and precision.
Our design process was driven by collaboration. Using advanced 3D CAD modelling software, we developed accurate, detailed models of the proposed balustrade systems, which enabled us to identify potential clashes early on. This approach was particularly critical in resolving the complex interfaces around the inset balconies, where our models highlighted key interactions with coping details, masonry support bracketry, and drainage outlets. The integration of these elements required careful coordination, which our modelling process facilitated, ensuring a smooth installation process.
Scope of Work
BA Systems’ scope on this phase was extensive, with a range of different balcony and façade elements contributing to the overall aesthetic and functionality of the buildings. Our work included:
- 50m of B50 Juliette balconies
- 370m of a combination of balustrades with solid panels and fascia-mounted B50 balustrades for the projecting balconies
- 32m of privacy screens
- 22nr canopies
- 900m of B50 inset balcony balustrades
Each of these elements was delivered to the highest standard, with our B50 balustrade system selected for its durability, clean lines, and minimal maintenance requirements. The seamless integration of solid panels into the balustrades enhanced the buildings’ visual appeal while providing privacy and wind protection for residents.
Installation and Project Management
The successful delivery of such a multifaceted project required not only design expertise but also efficient project management and skilled installation. To ensure the highest quality of execution, we appointed a dedicated project manager and supporting site manager to oversee the works from start to finish. Working alongside our experienced installation team, they ensured that every aspect of the project ran smoothly, from the coordination of on-site activities to the meticulous installation of each balcony and screen.
Our commitment to collaboration, precision, and quality ensured that the Gallions Reach development was delivered on time and to the satisfaction of Vistry Partnerships. As with our work on Great Eastern Quays, this project stands as a testament to BA Systems’ ability to deliver complex architectural metalwork solutions on large-scale residential developments.
Gallions Reach is a prime example of our dedication to innovative design, seamless project management, and successful delivery in partnership with our clients. We look forward to continuing to contribute to the ongoing transformation of London’s Royal Docks.
